Individuals in the Vioxx multidistrict litigation have begun to receive their payments in the $4.85 billion dollar settlement with Merck. The plaintiff steering committee devised a point system base upon the type of injury sustained, the extent of usage of the product, and the individual's health history to allocate the $4.85 billion. While many questioned whether the settlement would adequately compensate the victims of the pain reliever, almost all those involved in the litigation ultimately agreed to the settlement.
